Get Help for Chronic Back Pain
Chronic back pain may be due to a degenerative condition called spondylosis. Our pain management doctors in Indianapolis, Lafayette, and Greenwood have solutions for this and other types of pain.

Spondylosis: Arthritis of the Spine

Spondylosis is a broad term that refers to degenerative conditions such as arthritis of the spine or spinal stenosis (narrowing of the spinal column). Most people will develop spondylosis as they grow older, simply due to natural wear-and-tear on the spine. Spinal degeneration may cause no pain in some people, but significant pain in others.

Previous injuries, underlying health conditions, or a family history of spinal disorders may make some people more likely to develop spondylosis, or more likely to experience painful symptoms. Neck pain and stiffness or low back pain are the most common symptoms of spondylosis, but radiating nerve pain may also occur if bone spurs form along the spine.

Center for Pain Management has extensive experience treating patients who have spondylosis. If you’re experiencing chronic neck pain or lower back pain that’s interfering with your quality of life, please call us to request a consultation: (317) 706-7246.

Types of Spondylosis

In addition to arthritis of the spine and spinal stenosis, spondylosis may describe other conditions, including:

  • Degenerative disc disease – the breakdown of spinal discs
  • Facet syndrome – arthritis of (or injury to) the spine’s facet joints
  • Bulging disc/pinched nerve – a weakened disc putting pressure on a spinal nerve root
  • Sacroiliitis – sacroiliac joint dysfunction

At Center for Pain Management, we use a variety of diagnostic tests to determine the underlying causes of back and neck pain, so we can develop an effective individualized treatment plan.

Spondylosis Treatment

Depending on the specific conditions, treatment for spondylosis may include physical therapy, nutrition counseling, physical therapy, and procedures such as radiofrequency rhizotomy – a technique that uses heat to disrupt pain signals between the nerves and the brain.

If you’re living with chronic neck pain or back pain, you’ve probably been through treatment before. Many healthcare providers fail to pinpoint the cause of pain, because they don’t have the right diagnostic tools or don’t understand nerve-related pain. At Center for Pain Management, we specialize in diagnosing and treating pain.
