Get Help for Muscle Pain
If you have hypersensitive areas in your muscles, contact us to schedule an appointment with our pain management specialists. We offer comprehensive treatment plans that will help you start to feel like yourself again.

Myofascial Pain: Trigger Points in Muscles

Often the result of acute injury or muscle overuse, myofascial pain syndrome (MPS) causes deep pain in muscles and in the connective tissue called fascia. People who have this condition develop trigger points or “knots” – hypersensitive areas that when touched, cause localized pain or referred pain (elsewhere in the body).

Stress, poor posture, and nutritional deficiencies may increase the risk of myofascial pain syndrome. An effective treatment plan for myofascial pain should address all underlying conditions that could be making the pain worse or interfering with recovery.

Center for Pain Management uses the latest diagnostic tools to evaluate our patients, so that we can gain a thorough understanding of our patients’ overall health. If you’re experiencing chronic muscle pain, knots, and stiffness, please contact us to schedule an appointment in Indianapolis, Greenwood, or Lafayette: (317) 706-7246.

Myofascial Pain Causes

This type of pain may have several causes or contributing factors, including:

  • Skeletal abnormalities
  • Injury to spinal discs
  • Osteoarthritis
  • Repetitive motion
  • Radiculopathy (pinched nerve)

Sleep difficulties can be both a cause of and a symptom of myofascial pain.

Myofascial Pain Treatment

Treatment for deep muscle pain may include massage, stretching, physical therapy, and pain-relieving injections. If a pinched nerve is causing pain, a nerve block may help alleviate symptoms.

Get Help for Chronic Pain
